week 1 | wednesday night | eleanor, ranpo

[this is taking place in wildkat so enjoy the food! ]

So, there's a note we found about Reapers and Entry Fees. It's written weird like a personal note so I can sum it up.

[ also i also don't know if he can find the note in here again? it's a winners-access thing ig. anyway, he holds up a finger. ]

The first is that Players don't know their specific entry fees! For some it's obvious what it is, like Izaya-san and his eyesight. For others, you just know something's missing. I kinda figured what's mine, but it's not I know what it is for sure.

[ second finger! it's a bunny now. ]

The second and more important thing: Reapers don't have to pay an entry fee.

........

[ HUFFS VERY LOUDLY. ]

That's convenient. I've kind of deduced what my specific entry fee is, considering that trying to remember some things draws up a perpetual blank....... is it something like that for you too, Mike-san?

[ turns to eleanor though ]

I think I've figured out Nora-san's entry fee though. She can't feel pain anymore.

[ Eleanor chokes on her french vanilla latte, sputtering espresso and foam all over herself. ]

Keep your voice down!

[ She shushes him and looks around warily. Nothing but shadow people here fortunately. ]

I suppose I've been a bit obvious about it, though Ranpo and Jacopo seem to be the only ones who have picked up on it.

[ There's a moment of clear indecision on her face, and then she finally spills— ]

I apologize for keeping this from you, but in the name of transparency I'm being honest now. Last week, our host approached me and offered me a boon. What I picked allowed me to choose a player and check to see if they were a Reaper. I chose Chuuya—

[ and before they can say anything ]

He's not one! I wasn't suspicious of him! I just wanted to make sure the people I'd acquainted myself with were trustworthy.

It wasn't that hard to figure out.

[ blandly. he saw you take a punch from magnus, ok it was pretty easy to figure that one out. also no one ever said that ranpo was the most tactful person in the room. ]

[ THAT'S GOING TO BE VERY QUICKLY FOLLOWED UP BY A DOUBLE TAKE AND like. because ranpo was precariously balancing his chair on two legs there's going to be a crash when he.

tips over. ]

You what?????

[ this is???? news to him????? ]

[ anyway!! he's getting up from being sprawled on the floor and he'll right up his chair before plonking himself into it again. ]

Ah, that means I shouldn't touch Mr. Fancy Hat, then. [ shrugs, makes a mildly disappointed noise. ] He was in the mafia back in my world, you know? Caused me a lot of trouble, so I didn't really trust him that much. So yeah, I probably would have checked if he was aligned with the Reapers........

[ leans back in his chair. he would put his foot up on the table tbh but after crashing once he's not going to do that again. ]

Is it a one-time thing or can you do it more than once?

[ She watches Ranpo fall to the ground, a little startled when he meets the floor. But otherwise she's mostly unamused at his reaction. First and foremost— ]

Please use your inside voice, Ranpo.

[ Anyway, now that Ranpo is (mostly) done acting a fool, she'll get back to their questions. She dabs her mouth with a napkin (kindly offered by Madara, aka the only other person in this room with manners). ]

I'll tell you the summary of what I learned from my questioning of the host. Essentially.. every week a player who isn't a Reaper is picked based on their performance. They choose an item and that item allows them some sort of advantage.. I think. I asked if all the items had positive consequences but he wouldn't answer. The item I picked just so happened to have the effect that it did— but yes, if someone gets the same set of items they could end up choosing the same thing I did.
